Picture vs Mind's eye

A random profundity- every action is the result of a distraction. In search of creative impulses, to diffuse the randomness of thought, while chasing that elusive depth, in a desperate attempt to escape the many cliches that define my existence, I have (once again) succumbed to the self obsessed outpouring (drivel?) that is blogging.

I could be fitting the photo frames bought from possibly my last trip to Woolworths (no, I'm fine, they aren't, they will soon close, finito forever- the credit crunch has gobbled this one up after 99 years) with some beautiful pictures to uplift the soul, but couldn't be bothered. I could be clearing the laundry, hanging out the dishes- no prizes for guessing the joint winners of the dullest activity ever.

This autumn just gone has been one long fiery outburst of colour and amazing fantasy. The sari shops of the imagination- falling from a huge height, flowing naturally in sensuous beauty- shimmering delicately with their alluring hues, they made me want to sing and dance around them for sure! Each day was a riot of changing colour- from bright orange to translucent yellow to a burnt red and a deep purple- how can one season be able to offer up so many luscious feasts to the eye? They have now burnt themselves out and withered into soggy clumps of wet leaves and slippery moss. I've even swept them off the grass and into the borders.

Now I see the bare skeletal remains of the trees that were once so beautifully adorned- as if Sati had been committed- the dressed up bride burnt by the all-consuming flames. When I could feel one with the excitement of the changing moods of the season just gone, I find it hard to be one with the bleakness that has now just begun. It will be April or even May before they begin to sprout leaves and that seems very far away.

Apparently it snowed everywhere else in the UK or has done at some point in the past month. But the closest it got to in Bristol was frost at the weekend- the thin ice on the streets makes my walking slightly more unpredictable than I'd like. I really don't want to fall again and twist those silly joints- sets you back for weeks even if you don't break anything. For all those sure-footed runners and walkers wearing dainty shoes who whiz past me- there may be trouble ahead!

Hi Myth,
Why don't you add a photograph to show these trees, in fact a series of them?

I love seeing leafless trees against a grey sky, with a hint of storm. Something unsettling yet hauting about the sight...
Paradise flycatcher!

This is Lovely. Each photograph is a piece of wonder in its own - the windy first, warm second and chilling bleak third... excellent .....thanks for the visual treat...

I'd love to be among the autumn trees in your picture today, with a few friends who love it as much as I do...
